What is Shishukunj Leicester?
Shishukunj started in 1972 and has been held at Shree Sanatan Mandir, Leicester for over 50 years every Sunday from 10.45am to 1pm (registration starts at 10:30am). Shishukunj has the purpose of encouraging children from 5 years onwards to discover and develop their talent so that they can positively impact the local community. For more information on our history, check out our history page.
We currently have around 80 – 90 children attending every Sunday. During Shishukunj, the children are split into 4 different groups depending on their age group (see our classes page). Once children are enrolled, they also receive a prayer book, which is unique to Shishukunj Leicester and our Prayers/Aarti/Thaal/Gita chapters.
Shishukunj organises a diverse range of activities and events throughout the year which seeks to nurture the ideals of love, compassion, respect, humanity, simplicity and eventually leadership so that each child can aspire for greatness in a way that benefits society.
We encourage parents to play an active role within Shishukunj. Parents support us every week with tasks such as packing prasad for children to take home, assisting with children’s learning and help in organising events such raas garba, puja’s, parties and festivals. We are fortunate to have so many parents donating their time and money to Shishukunj activities.
Some of our weekly activities include: Reciting Bhagavat Gita, Prathana’s, Storytelling, Surya Namaskar and Games. We also have annual celebrations of major festivals including Navratri and Diwali and our eagerly anticipated Christmas party.
If you are interested in your child/children joining Shishukunj, then come along to Shree Sanatan mandir between 10:30am and 11:00am on Sunday morning and enrol your child/children or ask more information 🙂
